Review:
his is a Wonderful Eco-Tourism Hotel. Our room was one of eight in a cluster in a small building raised about 10 feet off the ground. There are covered walkways throughout the grounds, and the organization for Tropical Studies' field station, La Selva, is either on the grounds or immediately adjacent. There appear to be nightly lectures on the lowland rainforest, and this hotel is right in the middle of that rainforest.
Birds and other wildlife are abundant, and howler monkeys could be heard at the crack of dawn. The Sarapiqui River runs through the grounds, and groups from the hotel can start upstream and raft back to the hotel. The resident naturalist conducts birding expeditions each morning and gives other lectures from time to time. While we were there we were also introduced to a local who scratches out a living growing black pepper and making cheese from the milk of her one cow.
Even if this hotel didn't have many of the other green features, I would recommend it on the basis of the education program it provides both for tourists and the locals.
