Review:
Last year when we stayed at the Rio for a conference we were disappointed to see it wasn't joining the ranks of greening hotels in Vegas. Not a single mention of green initiatives was seen anywhere. So this year, when we checked into our room, we were pleasantly surprised to see the hotel's sheet and towel reuse policy stated on a card on the bed and in the bathroom. The stated policy was that you had to call housekeeping for fresh sheets and leave your towel on the floor for fresh towels. Imagine my surprise, given that policy, to have my sheets changed when no call was placed, and my towels changed when they were neatly hung on the racks. We hung the Privacy Please card for the balance of our stay. [management's attitude was indifference, at best, when reported to them]
The one good thing the housekeeper did on her one day in our room was to vacuum the floor, getting rid of the chunks of food (cookies/crackers/bread?).
The durable waste baskets, one at each sink but not at the desk, were lined with plastic; such a shame to waste those resources. The refrigerator rattled and buzzed every time the compressor was on, but the white noise of the HVAC drowned out the noise.
Though the environmental issues were disappointing we enjoyed the hotel fine. We had a great view of the various pools and lounge areas, and the north part of The Strip. The minimized smoking in the hotel/casino proper made it more bearable to be here than it was during past conferences.
There are lots of dining, shopping, and entertainment options here, both at the hotel and in the city. We enjoyed the Penn & Teller show, and getting to shake hands with them after their performance.
