Review:
We had a great three days at this hotel. The room rates weren't too bad, but the prices at everything else (dining room, snack bars, bar, internet and various entertainment opportunities) were outrageous! The hospitality was a bit lacking too; one person we were traveling with was told he couldn't have turn down service because that was for VIPs only and another was told his room was nice enough when he asked about upgrades. However, as long as we ordered food we were allowed a nook in the bar for our meetings.

The premise of the hotel is not really environmental, being built on a volcanic coast line with top soil brought in for the garden areas. They make some efforts at environmental action to balance the "bad start", but I'm not sure they do enough. Because of the size of the property they offer both "train" and "boat" rides from the lobby to the various towers. When the trains weren't working walking was your only option. Perhaps a moving sidewalk for each direction would have been more energy efficient and convenient for guests (waiting for the train could be frustrating).

Our room was spacious and clean, and had a peaceful view of the golf course. The lanai was pleasant to sit on too. This hotel uses an energy management system that turns off the AC when the lanai door is open, saving lots of energy.

We instituted our own sheet and towel reuse program by putting a "Do Not Disturb" sign up since we'd heard they changed sheets and towels despite their offer to leave hung towels and to not change sheets but every three days. Our approach worked well at least.

The wastebaskets were unlined, a feature we appreciate. We hate the reliance on the petroleum industry associated with trash can liners, and don't like the look of plastic bags hanging over the top of the wastebaskets; then there's the landfill issue as well.

The shower curtain and liner were cloth, hanging from one of those bowed curtain rods, making the shower a comfortable space to use. We found CFL in all of the lamps and lights, another good tip-of-the-hat to energy conservation.
