Review:
The oldest cottages in this complex were built in the 1930s by the Civilian Conservation Corps (as were the campgrounds, trails, and the long, windy road leading to the Chisos Basin).
The majority of the rooms are in the motel-style buildings that date from the '60s-'70s. We stayed in a block of rooms built in the '40s that was absolutely charming.
All the facilities in Big Bend Park conserve water out of necessity. All the lighting we saw was compact fluourescent. This may be an effort to tread lightly on aging wiring, but I really don't care why they do it. I saw compact fluorescents in the newer facilities, too.
In the future, I will carry a Best Green Hotels scorecard with me. I must admit I didn't notice whether or not there were plastic bags in the garbage cans. I do believe this establishment walks the talk.
And you can't beat the location!
